Answering “The Call”

The OPBA continues to answer our members call in the most critical of times.  Since my last article, the OPBA has assisted our members with at least four more police-involved shootings.  Unfortunately, these shootings continue as criminals continue to challenge officers who are just doing the job they are sworn to do.  These officer-involved-shootings have happened in areas such as the City of Cleveland to Central Ohio to Northwest Ohio to Northeast Ohio.  The OPBA attorneys representing the unit(s) were contacted for counsel closely related to the incident.  In two of the shootings I mentioned, the shootings happened at nearly the same time in different locations and OPBA attorneys were on the scene.  Please keep all of our members involved in these incidents and others in your thoughts.  As a reminder, if you or another are involved in an incident which requires OPBA representation please call 1-800-457-4190 24 hours a day 7 days per week.

The OPBA has endorsed Judge John P. O’Donnell (D) and Judge Pat DeWine (R) for the Ohio Supreme Court in the upcoming election.  Please consider voting for these candidates and keep in mind that the OPBA will be arguing a case in front of the Ohio Supreme Court in the near future on our members’ behalf.

The 2016 OPBA Golf Outing was again a success.  Over $4,000 was raised for the OPBA Charitable Foundation.  Congratulations to the first place winters Pat Petsche, Steve Schwankeamp, Daryl Lupsor and Gary Fee.

The Republican National Convention took place in July and many of our members participated in providing security.  OPBA Attorney Max Rieker was stationed at this event in case a situation arose that our members needed immediate representation.  Thankfully the convention went well.  All of our members, especially Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Deputies, Corrections Officers and Protective Services did a great job!

The OPBA continues to improve our social media platforms.  Please visit the OPBA on Facebook and Twitter.

PLEASE VOTE NOVEMBER 8TH!  STAY SAFE and WATCH EACH OTHERS BACKS!
