Brian Holb Introduction
Apr 04, 2019

By: OPBA Attorney Brian Holb

Hi everyone.  I am Brian Holb and I started in December 2018 as an OPBA attorney in the North Royalton office. In addition to my duties as an attorney, I will also be representing the OPBA in front of the Ohio General Assembly, and the boards of the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund, the School Employees Retirement System, and the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.  Additionally, I will be working to organize new units and increase OPBA’s social media presence.

I obtained my Bachelor of Professional Studies in Organizational Leadership, magna cum laude, from The University of Memphis and my law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.  While in law school, I worked as a legal intern at Ohio’s State Employment Relations Board, a law clerk at the Franklin County Public Defender’s Office, and as a judicial extern for Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Preston Deavers of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.  Additionally, I was an articles editor on The Ohio State Law Journal and president of the Labor & Employment Law Association.

Upon graduation from law school, I worked for an international labor and employment law firm where I gained experience in collective bargaining negotiations, including drafting proposals, collective bargaining agreements, and mediation statements.  I also have experience with matters arising under the Ohio Public Employees’ Collective Bargaining Act, National Labor Relations Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Occupational Safety Act, and Ohio Discrimination/Whistleblower Statutes.

Prior to law school, I was a career fire fighter/paramedic and ten year member of the International Association of Fire Fighters.    My interest in labor comes from my family background of rubber workers and miners.  Several of my great grandparents and grandparents were members of the United Mine Workers of America, the United Rubber Workers, and later, the United Steelworkers.  As a former union member, I understand what OPBA members expect from their Union, and I am proud to provide that service.

I am a native of Akron where I currently live. I volunteer my time as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Summit County, a member of Bluecoats Inc. of Summit County, and as a member of Torchbearers Akron Class of 2018.  Please contact me if I can help you in any way.  GO BUCKS!
